It’s my first ever dead week! UC Merced doesn’t have a dead week before finals, but so far it is nice to be able to just focus on final papers without having to attend class and tutorials (that means discussions/labs for those of you in the U.S.).
Just like at UC Merced, not every class has a final, but out of my four courses, 2 have final papers and two have final exams. And just like at UC Merced, finals are a BIG deal.
As in accounting for 60% of your grade – BIG. I can see why the students of Australia need an actual dead week.
Studying in the University Library, I can see the similar studying habits of students back home. Papers all over desks, coffee and energy drinks in abundance, last minute meeting with tutors (this is equivalent to a Teachers Aid or GSI back home). It’s a bit comforting to know how similar all college students are, even on the other side of the world. 😛
Dead week is a time to get that last minute study time in, and although I spent the first part of this dead week Monday catching up on some much-needed sleep, the rest of the week will be filled with papers, coffee, and studying for those exams!
Wish me luck!
