St. Patrick’s Day

Giorno di San Patrizio: Saint Patrick’s Day

I initially believed that not many people in Rome or in even Italy would celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. I figured that only people in Ireland or America really participate in this holiday.

However, people in Rome put up little displays to commemorate St. Patrick’s Day. There are a lot of Irish pubs around the city that have huge celebrations and parties on the night of March 14. In addition, they have film festivals and a huge ball in the Villa Borghese on this day.

The main event, however, is the lighting of the Colosseum! The city set ups gigantic green light screens around the landmark at night so it appears to be all green! This is definitely one of the coolest and festive sights I have been lucky enough to see in Rome.

My friends and I, front and center in front of the green Colosseum!
